JSH-Writes Newsletter Archive - Volume 2 - 02/08/2025

Welcome to a new series I’m posting directly to my website, for posterity, if you will. I came to the realisation that I do need to keep the place active, and I thought there would be no better way to do this than by documenting my old newsletters - a little trip down memory lane for me, and something of a manual into madness for those of you who find yourself in the nether realms of my website. Enjoy!

ARCS ARE OUT - Am I frustrated, relieved or terrified?

Hello everybody,

We've made it to round two! I would've loved to send this out a couple of days ago, but had to delay it so I could get my ARCs out last night!

I'm going to keep things conversational today. Frankly, it's been a really weird week. After going through the last 6 months of editing and formatting, fair to say I was getting tired of waiting for other people to get back to me. Then this week came along, and I was just waiting on the ePub files, but for whatever reason, they just. wouldn't. arrive.

But then they did!

Last night was a blur of Bookfunnel, Mailerlite, Google Forms, Instagram and Canva, but this morning, I woke up with the knowledge that DARK SANDS is finally in the hands of people who... want it in their hands?? Still, absolutely crazy to think about.

A few wonderful people were even on hand to let me know they had received it and were keen to read it - seriously, it might have just felt like a comment, story or DM, but please know how much these things meant to me!

Because after the excitement wore off, came the terror.

Oh god, the terror.

My book is out there.

I won't pretend for a second that this is an original thought or emotional process - I'm sure every single creator since the first person to draw on a cave has felt the same way.

And to be fair, the excitement hasn't worn off. I believe in this novel, and I believe that this is the exact community of people who I wrote it for.

So, hell to the anxieties. They're a part of the furniture, sure, but let's put that furniture out on the street, to be picked up by some opportunistic sharehousers who need it? Okay, this metaphor started really funny in my head but now just makes no sense.

Anyway, ARCs are out! I hope you love them!

~With love, JSH <3
